Movin on…..

Movin on…..

We have enjoyed our stay at St. John’s Yacht Harbor but it’s time to move on. We released our lines this morning (Monday 7/15) at about 8:45 in route to Leland Oil Company Marina in McClellanville, SC. Lots to see on the water this trip. More beautiful waterfront homes, pretty commercial area, Coast Guard Station, interesting bridges, people fishing, people jet skiing, signs on the water about hurricane regulations, dredges, barges and sunken barges, numerous small go-fast boats, boats in…

Run Forrest Run…..

Run Forrest Run…..

Sadly, we left Bruce and Lady’s Island this morning (Wednesday, 7/10) around 9:00. Leaving the marina, we passed the Cowan Creek Bridge. This bridge links Lady’s Island and St. Helena Island and is just east of Beaufort. Bruce told us this is the famous bridge that Tom Hanks ran across in the movie Forrest Gump.    Run Forrest run! We had a pretty long 7.5- hour sail today but it was a nice easy and interesting journey.  We didn’t see many…

3 Humans ~ 3 Canines ~ On A 3 Hour Cruise

3 Humans ~ 3 Canines ~ On A 3 Hour Cruise

Oops, again, I have been remiss in posting, so here’s our update…… Left the dock at Isle of Hope in Savannah, GA about 9:00 Sunday (6/30) morning and arrived at Shelter Cove Marina in Hilton Head, SC about 1:00. The atmosphere here is very different – we are about three boats away from the boardwalk.  The boardwalk runs between the marina/boats and high-rise condos and has numerous shops, bars, coffee shops and restaurants. Lots of activity – with competing live…

Wow…..

Wow…..

Arrived at Isle of Hope Marina, Thursday (6/27) afternoon about 2:30.  We hopped off the boat for a doggie walk and immediately found ourselves in a charming village of winding roads, walking under canopies of massive live oak trees dripping with moss. On the upside of the road were gorgeous old historic homes with big porches, some with gas porch lights, and landscaped gardens all arranged around a horseshoe-shaped bend overlooking the Skidaway River.  On the downside were marshlands and…

A Whole lot of nothing and a whole lot of nobody….

A Whole lot of nothing and a whole lot of nobody….

Monday (6/24) morning we waited until about 9:40 for the tide to come in so we’d have plenty of water to depart Lang’s Marina in St. Mary’s then cast off our lines and head for Jekyll Island. There’s not a whole lot to see out here on this stretch of the journey– a whole lot of nothing and a whole lot of nobody! We did have to do battle with a bunch of horse or deer flies, not sure which…

Hello Again….

Hello Again….

Did you miss us? We sure missed you! We had another computer glitch and I couldn’t communicate/post and I REALLY missed chatting with you. But my “Miracle Michael” got us up and running again! We have been scurrying through this part of our journey because our insurance agent (George) says we need to be, at least, to St. Mary’s, Georgia or further north by July 1st due to hurricane season. So, here’s a quick update:  We left Halifax Yacht Club…

Moving Right Along…..

Moving Right Along…..

Friday, 6/14 – Up this morning before the crack of dawn, released our lines about 7:00 leaving Melbourne Yacht Club and cruising north in the Indian River headed for Titusville Florida. The weather was cooler, a bit overcast, and extremely calm – the water looked like we were gliding on glass. It was another easy cruising day – just under five hours. The scenery was mostly “regular” big waterfront homes and a few boats out enjoying a day on the…

Ohhhh, that feels really really good……

Ohhhh, that feels really really good……

Maybe it’s because we have been confined to a slip for the past two months but getting out on the open water and moving again feels really, really good! Yesterday, (Wednesday, 6/12) after fueling up and pumping out at Sunset Bay Marina in Stuart Florida we stuck our nose out into the St. Lucie River and headed north for Ft. Pierce. It was an awesome morning with blue skies and flat seas as we started our, approximately, four-hour journey. Several…

Wahoo!!!!!!

Wahoo!!!!!!

Looks like tomorrow morning we will say “bye-bye” to Stuart Florida and Sunset Bay Marina. After a successful open-heart surgery, a new aortic valve, six weeks of R and R, lots of drugs, a diet of “twigs and sprouts” and no docktails, the doctors say Michael is “good to go”!  His last IV was taken this morning and awesome nurse Suzanne came by to take out the annoying, but much needed, PICC line. Free to go at last. Wahoo!!! What…

A Really Scary Time……

A Really Scary Time……

The bad and scary news  – Michael had a heart attack resulting in emergency open heart surgery to replace his aortic valve……  The good news – the attack happened in the hospital bed surrounded by a great medical team who took really good care of him. A little back story of what happened. These are my words – it was all kind of blur and the doctors used terms that I didn’t quite understand but this is how I remember…
