Splash….

Splash….

Friday morning, August 20th we checked out of our motel and arrived at the boatyard at 7:30 AM where the boat yard crew was ready to splash us. Scout was hung in the travel lift slings the night before so Michael could finish the bottom paint. Once we lugged the rest of our belongings up the ladder and onto the boat, we were ready to go, and at 8:00 AM, we were eased into St. Mary’s River, headed to the ICW and then north. The engine started promptly (yay!), so far so good, but we did silently say a little prayer that ALL systems would work.

We had a pleasant and uneventful 4-hour cruise to Jekyll Harbor Marina in Jekyll Island Georgia. Arriving right on schedule, at noon, we had an easy landing on the face dock and dockhands were standing by to help us tie up, pump out and fuel up.  Tie up was easy peasy. Pump-out was successful. But when we went to take on fuel, the vent opening on the starboard side started dribbling fuel down the hull. Yikes!! All hands-on deck! Spill diapers were deployed and taped beneath the vent. Michael began moving the boxes of heavy stuff (tools mostly) from the starboard side to the port side – still leaking a little. Then Michael rigged a hose system which stopped it. Apparently, an airlock from one fuel tank to the other was the culprit. All good now.

Then the air-conditioning quit. While Michael worked on that, I walked up to the on-site restaurant, Zachry’s Riverhouse, to get us lunch. When I got back, we had air conditioning. Yay! So, we ate lunch, settled in, straightened things up a bit, and took the doggies for a walk. We planned on walking to the market, just 20-minutes away, but it was blistering hot, so we opted for the courtesy golf cart – but we were too late. All closed up for the day. We did, however, reserve it for the next day and made a golf cart trip to town. Fun for all!

With no food on board, we moseyed up to the restaurant, sat on the deck, with the doggies, and had dinner. I had the Wild Georgia Shrimp dinner based on the ravings from our dock greeter, Jovon. He told us “It’s the best shrimp in the world”, so sweet and tender, like none he’s ever tasted. So, I had to try it. He was right. It was delicious and I’m in love with Wild Georgia Shrimp. Michael had Crab cakes and Margaritas which were also extremely delicious! Oops no photos of the delicious meals but I’m sure we will make it up there again before we leave.

We’ve had a long day so, back to the boat and early to bed where we all slept like babies.

Will keep you posted…..

    1. Yes, hopefully it’s solved!
There was a small sailboat that a tow boat towed to our marina and the captain and his boat were right behind us. His comment to us was – “my friends told me to buy a boat and you’ll have lots of fun”! He sat here for about a week before the tow boat came back and towed him to St Mary’s for a rudder repair. Fun times boating (?)…..

  1. You two! Looks like a pretty easy day even with the little gremlin’s that had to show up. Glad to hear everything else went well. Enjoy yourselves and stay safe.

WOW.. What an adventure. I’m so glad to hear that you are back doing what you love the most!
You both look fantastic and I’m glad to hear that you are leisurely (?)taking advantage of your time on the water.

    1. Hi Carole, so nice to hear from you and hope all is good.
Yeah, we’re enjoying being on the boat again and visiting small towns from the water side. I have to say it’s pretty magical…
      Hugs.

    1. Hi Bruce, yeah it is fun!
Don’t think we’ll make it to Beaufort this year. Having to be back in Houston in October and December has put a little crimp in our plans. We plan to be in Georgia thru the end of October then in Jacksonville, FL in November and December. We’re not that far from you so why don’t you come see us? We should make it to Beaufort next year though…..
      Hugs.

  4. Hi Fam – glad you & the pups are doing well! Saw your note about the shrimp…we source the wild Georgia shrimp at our new St Simons Island Salata! I thought it was the best shrimp I’d tasted too!!

Safe travels & see you soon!

    1. Hi guys. Yep, we’re all doing well. That’s great that you use Wild Georgia shrimp at the St. Simons Salata. It’s awesome. We’d bring some back with us but I don’t think it would last the 2 to 3 days driving back. Let’s order some and have it delivered when we get back to Houston(?).
