Monday (6/24) morning we waited until about 9:40 for the tide to come in so we’d have plenty of water to depart Lang’s Marina in St. Mary’s then cast off our lines and head for Jekyll Island. There’s not a whole lot to see out here on this stretch of the journey– a whole lot of nothing and a whole lot of nobody! We did have to do battle with a bunch of horse or deer flies, not sure which they are, but they are REALLY big and really mean. When they bite, they take a chunk of you with them. We managed to shoo them outside, close the doors and windows, and turn on the A/C. Problem solved.

We arrived at Jekyll Island Marina, which IS on a real island, about 1:30 in the afternoon. It’s a wonderful peaceful place with lots of history and beauty. We hopped off the boat and headed for lunch at the waterfront restaurant just a few steps from the boat. The doggies were in dog-heaven because we also found beautiful green grass under huge moss-laden oak trees for them to get relief, romp around and enjoy themselves. Wolf, wolf! (thank you mom and dad). We decided to stay an extra day and took advantage of the courtesy golf cart on Tuesday morning to go to breakfast and then toured the historic district. So beautiful and so much fun. I also got a pedicure by a woman with very strong hands. Ouch! But I have short painted toenails and I’m happy, now that I can walk again.

We dropped anchor about 1:15 and were the only boat in the quiet, protected low country salt-water marsh anchorage. It was a beautiful calm night without much movement until about 4:30 the next morning when we felt a little motion caused by small fishing boats headed out to go fishing.

About 8:30 Thursday (6/27) morning we weighed anchor, which was easy,  and, we were happy to find the chain and anchor clean.  We were followed out by a pod of dolphin playing in our wake. Amazing! Today we will make our way to Isle of Hope – beautiful name huh, which is in south Savannah, Georgia. The scenery, again, a whole lot of nothing and a whole lot of nobody. Only excitement was going through a pass that was cut between two rivers and aptly named “Hell Gate”. Our chart and chart guides warned us of constant shoaling on both ends of the pass that may not be reported. We followed the Navionics Sonar chart route religiously and we lived to die another day. Wahoo!
