Wow…..

Wow…..

Arrived at Isle of Hope Marina, Thursday (6/27) afternoon about 2:30.  We hopped off the boat for a doggie walk and immediately found ourselves in a charming village of winding roads, walking under canopies of massive live oak trees dripping with moss. On the upside of the road were gorgeous old historic homes with big porches, some with gas porch lights, and landscaped gardens all arranged around a horseshoe-shaped bend overlooking the Skidaway River.  On the downside were marshlands and private boat docks. I just kept saying wow, wow, wow – this setting is the prettiest we’ve seen so far. Sorry……I know you are probably tired of seeing more photos of homes – but, honestly, I can’t help myself. I just love beautiful homes, so here are some more photos.

Not only is this a place of beauty but the people here are so warm and friendly. As we walked with dogs in tow and camera in hand, experiencing the architecture and serenity of the community, we encountered numerous people of all ages walking/jogging, biking and golf carting and most would pause to say “morning mam” , “howdy mam”, how’re y’all or to pet the dogs and/or chat a bit. Wow, I love this place.

Isle of Hope, despite the name, is actually NOT an island, but a peninsula, bounded, but not quite cut off by the area’s marshland waterways and is located about ten miles south of Savannah, Georgia.

We were told by a local that this area rarely gets hurricanes, but one did come through a few years ago. The storm surge nearly took the docks over the pilings but those beautiful old historic homes were spared and did not get any flooding. Wow, amazing!

We spent three days (Thursday 6/27, Friday 6/28, Saturday 6/29) here. On Friday night the marina hosted a party in their pavilion with a live band, hot dogs, a boiled peanut truck, and cash bar. We were invited to attend and walked up fot a look-see and a hot dog. It was extremely well attended (about 400 people of all ages) mostly from the neighborhood. The band was very good and very loud! This is definitely a party place. We elected to go back to the boat and listen from afar which was just the right volume. We had access to a courtesy car from the marina which we used several times to make runs into town. We really appreciate this Southern hospitality! Wow!

We head to Hilton Head, SC tomorrow. Will keep you posted.

  1. We are so happy you are finding such wonderful places to visit. Your new camera is capturing the beauty of those beautiful homes perfectly. Less thunderstorms now that scare the puppies? Will you be getting your new frig soon?

    1. Thanks Barbara,
Yes, we haven’t had a bad thunderstorm in a while now. Both Snooki and I are extremely happy about that.
We plan to be in Beaufort SC on 7/2 and our fridge has shipped and is supposed to arrive at the marina in Beaufort on the 5th. Hopefully that happens – We certainly will be happy to have refrigeration again. It’s the little things in life, right?
