Prisoners in Paradise….

Prisoners in Paradise….

Hi All! We hope this finds everyone safe, happy and healthy!

We are still stationary in Marathon, FL and feeling a bit like “prisoners in paradise” in our little neighborhood known as Bonefish Marina. It’s beautiful here and the weather has been pretty much ideal, hovering in the 70’s and 80’s. We share the marina with half dozen other live-aboards and the people living in the three-story condos on either side, affectionally called “cliff dwellers” by the marina folks.   We greet our neighbors on the docks, at a safe distance, and say hi to the “cliff dwellers” as we pass underneath their balconies.

Our starboard side neighbors are Donnie and Michelle on Miss Behavin’.  Donnie plays in a band but currently has no place to perform, so he plays the guitar and sings on their aft deck and we get the benefit of his great live music. How lucky are we to be their neighbors?!

This “virus” is pretty mild here. As of today (4/6) there were 44 reported cases and two deaths in Monroe County which includes ALL of the Keys. We understand that there is only one reported case here in Marathon. Apparently, it is a cashier at Publix where everyone shops. Hopefully she recovers quickly and there will be no more reported cases.

We have ventured out a few times. Took Scout-About to a little secluded white sand beach just around the bend. The dogs loved being able to run and play in the water while we sat in some chairs that were left on the shore that look suspiciously very much like the marina clubhouse chairs. Another day we took the mothership (Scout) to a place called Coffins Mooring Fields where folks go to snorkel and dive. The water was incredibly beautiful and clear, but too bumpy to stay so we turned around and came back. Fun and beautiful though.

Otherwise we’ve been “sheltering in place” like everyone else. I’m cooking and trying new recipes – cooking/preparing three meals a day! First of all, you have to figure out WHAT to prepare, then you have to gather all the ingredients before you even start cooking something. For someone who cooked/prepared, maybe, one meal every few days – it’s hard work!  Some of the other things I’ve done to keep occupied – play solitaire, alphabetize spice rack, play solitaire, create an Excel spreadsheet for our food supply, play solitaire, organize/store clothes and create a “capsule” wardrobe, play solitaire. Michael, on the other hand, has been doing lots and lots of boat projects. Scout’s looking pretty good….

We went on another excursion today – at low tide, we went to the sand bar again on Scout-About. There was only one other boat out there in the distance. So, no problem social distancing. Felt really good to get out and enjoy the water which, by the way, is WARM!

Missing you all. Stay safe and we’ll keep you posted as things progress here on the Island of Marathon.

    1. Thanks for reaching out. Hope you guys are safe and happy. Enjoy the quiet time together. Hugs!

  1. Oh Sharon, join the cooking queen here!! Although a salad is a lot easier to deal with but at this end, after last weeks snow and chilly cold weather, it is gorgeous and promises to be for the rest of the week. Spent today putting soil in planters for my patio, stripping paint off a desk getting ready to finish setting up my home away from home office, and washing the dirt and lava rock dust off my car – totally exciting eh! At least you have the weather, beautiful waters, they’ve banned ALL sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking and surfing back in SD – everyone is complaining but hey, it’s not forever. Sending lots of love to you and Mike, stay safe and stay well xx

    1. Hey Jane, would love to be able to put soil in planters and grow a garden. We do have a small herb garden but would love something bigger – tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. Sounds like you are keeping yourself busy and you are so right. We are lucky to have such beautiful weather and and water.
Yes, I heard about San Diego. Someone told us they fined a paddle boarder $1,000 for violating the ban. Crazy – what does paddle boarding by yourself hurt?
It’s not forever and I think our life will be a little different, maybe for the better, after all this is over.
      Stay safe and happy!

  2. Hey! Well, first off – besides HI, is you need to pay a little attention to your card game. Place the (xxx) on the (yyy) – obviously I can no longer see the folly, but in the picture it is apparent.
Ahem, shake my head and move forward with greetings. I guess it’s weird everywhere. We are having some pretty good rainfall even though it’s April and it should be Spring and everything is ALREADY green. There is a beautiful enormous full moon outside – that is the ONLY thing outside. I have nothing left to clean but the garage (wanted to put that in CAPS also, but enough already).
Sunday is Kyle Clark’s birthday – please send him a HB.
You don’t have to post this if it’s inappropriate. Love you guys, -p

    1. Hey! What’s wrong with my card game? I have to admit I play the “easy” way and I never win even playing the “easy” way unless I go through the deck two times. But it keeps me busy. Yeah, we had a full moon outside here too, ha ha.
Speaking of Kyle, the Reiter’s put together a CC Rider “Zoom” Cocktail Party last night. It was 5:30 your time so it was 8:30 here. There were about 19 of us on the feed. It was totally awesome, like big virtual hugs! We could hear and see everyone but they kept telling us they couldn’t hear us, not sure why. Need some more practice I guess. I will read up on it and give you a shout-out so we can play Zoom. It’s sorta like being together again. Missing you. Stay safe.
