Hunkered Down…..

Hunkered Down…..

Hi friends –just touching base. Hope this finds you all safe and healthy as we navigate these unusual and scary times. We are still in Marathon, FL at least until the end of this month. We are hunkered down and trying to abide by the new directives – “wash your hands” “shelter in place” “isolate” “social distancing” “don’t go anywhere”, etc. Again……we are trying to decide if we will stay in Marathon or if we will go.  Marathon is pretty…

“The Night of the Iguana”

“The Night of the Iguana”

Ok, so it’s really the Day of the Iguana. Yesterday afternoon this guy/gal came sauntering up the dock beside us – needless to say, the dogs went crazy! This morning it was lounging on the stern of Scout-About, then it moved up to the bow.  We decided to close the back doors to keep the dogs from seeing it thus heading off an early morning bark-a-thon. Next time we looked it was aboard the Mother-Ship. Friendly little thing…we’re calling him/her…

On Island Time….

On Island Time….

Last we left off, Thursday (2/27), we had just arrived at Bonefish Marina in Marathon, FL, and we’re still here. We’re pretty much living the “Island Life”, slow, laid back and quiet. We’re enjoying spending time with our old-new friends and making new ones. We met Linda and Harry in Stuart. FL last summer and they came to Marathon on July 4th and never left. They live on their boat “Sophie” at Burdines Marina and say they’ve found home and…

To The Keys…..

To The Keys…..

A quick trip to Trader Joe’s in anticipation of leaving tomorrow morning. Oh, how I love that store.  Sunday (2/23) we released our lines and eased out of Sunset Harbour Marina and Yacht Club about 8:15 leaving the mega yachts behind. We wanted to make the 9:00 opening of the Venetian (11 foot) Bridge. We left too early so ended up doing donuts for about 20 minutes. Darn. It was a beautiful, warm and sunny day with a bit of…

Pay to Play….

Pay to Play….

When we last chatted, we were in the beautiful anchorage at Key Biscayne Bite with plans to get up early Friday (2/21) morning and cruise to Key Largo. Weather was checked and reservations made. As we went to bed Thursday (2/20) night the wind shifted from a comfortable westerly to the northeast and the wind speed continued to build all night. Our “beautiful” anchorage turned into a washing machine and we were rocking and rolling pretty good so none of…

Breaking Bread with Friends New and Old….

Breaking Bread with Friends New and Old….

Still in Dania Beach Marina in Dania Beach, FL. Saturday (2/15) Rick (Blue Horizon) and Michael had a great day together – a trip to Home Depot to buy plywood, lumber, etc. for a sofa storage project. The project included pulling the innards out of the sleeper sofa. Michael pulled ours out several weeks ago but didn’t have the materials to finish the project, so he helped Rick dispose of their sofa innards then out came the skil saw, impact…

Don’t Sleep Under the Coconut Tree…..

Don’t Sleep Under the Coconut Tree…..

Gosh it’s been so long since we’ve chatted!  I’ll give you the “readers digest” version of where we’ve been and where we are now, and then I’ll try to keep in touch more often. When we left off last we were in Daytona Beach. On Thursday (1/23) we left Daytona about 8:15 for a short ride to Smyrna Yacht Club in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Once we arrived at SYC we had lunch on the Yacht Club patio then went…

Iguanas Falling From Trees..

Iguanas Falling From Trees..

Time to say good-bye to the lovely town of St. Augustine, FL and Municipal Marina and continue moving south. This was definitely another one of our favorite places to visit.  Monday, morning (January 20) was chilly with a wind-chill temperature of 32 degrees as we eased out of our slip. It would be a short two-hour trip today with sunny skies and flat seas, kind of a boring trip really. Except….. as we were cruising along nicely, Michael suddenly says –…

Feels So Good….

Feels So Good….

January 10th marked the start of our second year on this Great Loop Adventure. On Thursday, January 16th we started moving again. Long story short – we decided to postpone Scout’s bottom job. Too many logistics and we can put it off a little while longer,  so we’ll wait until things work out better down the road (water). Once the fog lifted and the tide gave us a favorable current direction, we eased out of our slip and into the…

Rear-View Mirror….

Rear-View Mirror….

Hi All! We’ve been pretty quiet for a while because nothing much has been going on! Since December 10th our home has been at Epping Forest Yacht and Country Club. EFYCC was originally the winter home of the Alfred duPont family. Built in the 1920’s, the 58-acre estate is nestled on the east bank of the St. John’s River and is a unique mixture of Gothic, Spanish Renaissance, and Baroque architectural styles. Located at the River’s widest point, Dupont reportedly…
