In Search of Cooler Weather….

In Search of Cooler Weather….

It’s unbelievably hot here. For all of our “left” coast friends – we miss the consistent 72-degree daytime temperatures and 68-degree nighttime temps.  We’re truly jealous!  On the “right” coast we’re experiencing constant heat indexes in the 110 degree “muggy” range. FYI: we hung a damp towel outside to dry, for eight hours, and it never did dry out!

Anyway, we left Southport Marina in North Carolina on Friday (7/19) morning for a short two-hour cruise and landed at Federal Point Yacht Club in Pleasure Island, NC. We decided to stay there all weekend and mostly just took it easy. We took Scout-About down from her perch and Scouted-About a bit, went to the Board Walk on the beach, to the pool, watched a huge Loggerhead turtle swim by and watched party boats go by (they drink beer, sing at the top of their lungs and pedal to make their boat go).  I read a book, Scout had a diver clean her bottom, and Michael cleaned off her brown mustache with lemon juice which works wonders. Mostly we just tried to stay cool.

Headed out this morning (Monday, 7/22) for Topsail Marina in Surfside, NC, another short four-hour cruise. The water turned that pretty shade of green again and we saw more really big homes with big lawns, and with horses this time, we saw a palm tree in the water with a flag next to it which we think becomes the beach when the tide goes out, we saw lots of birdhouses (?) and a commercial dredge.

After it cooled down a bit, we walked into the little town and to the beach which was beautiful. I think this might be a girlie town, see how many pink trash cans vs the number of blue trash cans.

Sorry, I know this is a little boring, but did I mention it’s too hot to do anything including think?  We’ll keep heading north in search of cooler weather. Plan to be in Beaufort, NC tomorrow  (pronounced Bo-fort not like Bew-fort in SC). Will keep you posted…..

  1. You nailed it Sharon. 68 and comfy as I type. It’ll cool off soon. I hear it’s been brutal and unseasonably hot all over. Except here. : )))

Live your posts. Keep it up!!!

    1. Thanks Patti,
I think today is the day we will get some relief. We are supposed to get a big thunderstorm tonight which will bring cooler weather. We’ll see.

  2. Hope the heat wave breaks soon. Jim’s sister in the DC area is really sick of the humidity and heat. Seems miserable in the Midwest as well.

    1. Yes, we are tired of the heat and humidity also! We might get some relief tonight. A big thunder storm is expected to roll in and bring cooler weather. Here’s hoping!

  3. Hi Sharon, finally closed our escrow & ended up in Fleetridge!! Looks like you two are having a really interesting trek. It’s amazing the things you can see from the water! Finally have internet again so will drop you a quick email. Good to see you both doing well.

    1. Hey, Congratulations! Fleetridge is a nice place to land. Yep, lots of interesting sights from the water. Good luck on YOUR new adventure.
