Hello Again….
Did you miss us? We sure missed you! We had another computer glitch and I couldn’t communicate/post and I REALLY missed chatting with you. But my “Miracle Michael” got us up and running again!
We have been scurrying through this part of our journey because our insurance agent (George) says we need to be, at least, to St. Mary’s, Georgia or further north by July 1st due to hurricane season.
So, here’s a quick update: We left Halifax Yacht Club in Daytona Beach, Florida on Monday (6/17) and arrived at River’s Edge Marina in St. Augustine around 1:30 that afternoon. We hopped off the boat to take the doggies for a walk and ended up in the beautiful historic district (without my camera). Unfortunately, it was there I lost my “seeing eye” glasses and spent the rest of the day and most of the next day getting new ones made. We didn’t make it back for more sightseeing or photos. This is definitely a place to return to and spend several days relaxing and enjoying everything this wonderful city has to offer. But, this time, we had to keep moving.
We continued north on Wednesday (6/19) headed for Jacksonville, Florida. About an hour south of Jacksonville we saw a six-mile residential area of “over the top” gorgeous homes. It’s also a no-wake zone so you’re forced to go slow giving us time to take in all the beautiful “eye candy”. As an ex-Realtor and ex-General Contractor, we were drooling and mentally remodeling every small home that hadn’t been improved yet. Fun!
We spent the night at Palm Cove Marina in Jacksonville. From there we went to Amelia Island Marina – Note: this marina is NOT on an island. It is a tired dock in need of repair with a food truck for a restaurant. Pretty disappointing but we spent Thursday (6/20) night there. We also saw much more commercial activity on the water on this leg of the journey.
Our next stop – St. Mary’s, Georgia! Yay, we made our destination on June 21st well short of our July 1st deadline. Now, we feel like we can slow down a bit and enjoy the journey. To our great surprise we discovered that our “old” friend, Jim Bell, now calls St. Mary’s home. Jim made arrangements for us to stay in Lang’s Marina where he keeps his boat. He met us at the dock when we arrived, helped us tie up and gave us the keys to his truck. How nice is he???? We hopped off the boat, took Jim to lunch, had great conversations and caught up on years past. Lang’s Marina used to be a big marina until the hurricane came through a couple of years ago and took it out. Now it’s one dock and accommodates about 10 boats. We spent three wonderful days (Friday, 6/21-Sunday 6/24) days in St. Mary’s enjoying the historic town and visiting with Jim. It’s a charming community with lots of history and beautiful homes built in the 1800’s and early 1900’s. Thanks to Jim this is one our most memorable stops. Thanks again Jim, we absolutely loved it.

So glad you got to spend time with Jim!!! Really miss him here. If you are still in touch with him, give him my best. Happy cruising!

Hi Pam,
Yes, it was so nice to catch up with Jim. He looks the same and seems very happy in St. Mary’s.
All the best,
Good to hear from you! So nice & lucky to be able to hook up with old friends along the way! Looks like you two are having fun. We are very busy getting ready for our move. Spent the last 2 nights on our boat since the house was being tented. Now taking our boat over to Driscoll’s for bottom paint etc, & then back to the club for the 4th. Keep 9n having fun & keep us posted!
Yes, it is so much fun to hook up with old friends. We are having a ball!
Best of luck with your move. I know selling can be stressful but it sounds like you are on the back end of it now.
Oh, how we will miss the Club and Bingo on July 4th. It’s always so much fun.
Enjoy!
I’m living vicariously through you and Michael!! It sounds like you are having an amazing adventure. Stay safe and enjoy every minute of it.
