Still in search of warm weather

Still in search of warm weather

Left Singing River Yacht Club this morning just after 8:00 am under grey skies and cold weather. Past Commodore, Rocky, came down to see us off and assure us if we stayed to the left going out of the channel we should be fine and shouldn’t go aground.  We stayed left, saw 1.8 feet under our keel, and made it out just fine. Not much to see out here again today.

We’re on our way to Homeport, Alabama. The trip started out a bit “choppy” then got pretty “lumpy” and pretty uncomfortable but then settled down for the last hour or so of the five and a half hour trip. Saw a few tugs/barges and three “pleasure craft”. One of the power variety and two of the sailing variety. These were the first sailboats we’ve seen since we left Kemah, Texas.

Arrived at Homeport Marina and Lucy Buffet’s Restaurant, LuLu’s, around 2:00 pm. We tied up and took the doggies for a walk. We didn’t see Jimmy anywhere but will let you know if he shows up while we’re here. Our plan was to go to Pensacola tomorrow but I wasn’t able to find a marina that had a guest space. So we’ll stay here for a couple more nights. It’s a nice protected marina and it’s supposed to be twenty-freaking-five degrees on Tuesday with winds gusting to 22 mph. I think it’s a bit pricey at $1.50 per foot plus $10.00 for electricity or $71.00 a night for us. But it’s protected and very comfortable.

  1. Unbelievable to have such cold weather where you are. When the temps are in the mid thirties and lower in Puget Sound, we get black ice on docks (especially wood docks). Please be careful, stay warm and safe.

  2. Our friends Gary and Linda Reed are at Paladin Marina downtown Pensacola. See if there is a slip there and find “Unwinding”. You will love them!

    1. Ok. That marina didn’t show up on our radar. I called eight places with no luck. I think there is some kind of Navy function going on in town. We’ve decided to stay put here at Homeport through Tuesday although today would have been a beautiful day to travel. Beautiful sunny, no wind day but cold.
      Thanks for the heads up!

  3. Hope it warms up for you! When you get to Pensacola, be sure and go to the Air Museum! I think it is world famous. Jack and I went many years ago and were so impressed. Also there is a bar fairly close to it where the Blue Angels have hung out for years (assuming it’s still there…) Keep having fun!!

  4. Hey Sharon it’s Brett from Old Venice. So excited to hear you are doing The Great loop. Nicole and I are hoping to do it in a few years from now 4-5. Wayne Terry passed your info on to me. I look forward to reading and following your travels. Cheers Brett

    1. Thanks Brett. We are enjoying our travels so far but will be much happier warm weather and blue waters.
