Sunset Bay in Stuart

Sunset Bay in Stuart

Left Indiantown Marina in Florida this morning about 8:45 for Stuart. It was a short and mostly boring trip, but we had plenty of water under our keel. Along the way we think we found Arrow’s mother. One of our previous boats, Arrow, a 60 foot Consolidated was built in 1924. We passed by a Consolidated that must have been 110 feet long and looked very similar/familiar except, of course, in size. It made us very nostalgic. We were the…

Conquering Lake O…

Conquering Lake O…

Off to conquer Lake O today….. Left Roland Martin Marina at 8:15 and cruised right through the open Clewiston Lock heading east. It was a pretty day with sunshine, blue skies, light breezes and calm seas. The first hour or so we saw depths of mostly 6-7 feet where our charts were showing them to be 11-12 feet, but we didn’t have any problems. After about an hour and a half most of the depth sounder readings were between 9…

What to do???

What to do???

This morning we pretty much decided to head back to Ft. Myers. Based on the dock master telling us that she had six boats call the yard because they grounded between the Moore Haven Lock and Clewiston and needed prop repair/replacement.  Also, our friends who now live in Cape Coral, emailed us last night to let us know that their friends did this same trip last week in their 48 foot Viking Princess with a four foot draft and grounded…

will we have enough water?

will we have enough water?

Woke up early this morning to dark skies and sprinkling rain. We tossed off our lines about 8:20 am to head for River Forest Yachting Center in Moore Haven, Florida which is our first stop before crossing Lake O.  It turned out to be a beautiful travel day with sunshine and clear blue skies and remained that way for the whole trip. We are traveling on the Caloosahatchee River, so the water is brownish, but our view upon leaving Ft….

Heading to Lake “O”

Heading to Lake “O”

Preparing to leave our comfortable space at the Legacy Marina which we’ve called home for the past three weeks. Getting a little antsy to hit the road again. Yeah, I know, hit the waters again. We plan to leave tomorrow morning to head across Lake Okeechobee, or Lake “O” as the locals call her, to Stuart and Florida’s east coast. Lake O is big, it’s the second largest fresh water lake in the continental United States.  Roughly circular, it’s approximately…

Meeting up with Friends…

Monday, 3/25/19 – Tuesday, 4/2/19, The Legacy Marina, Ft. Myers, Florida Ok, it’s been a while since the last post just because there hasn’t been much happening to tell you about. We’re just hanging out at the Marina getting boat projects done, walking to the Historic Downtown and to Publix, reading, and ordering things from Amazon. Michael got a haircut at the Barber Shop in Historic Downtown from the historic barber who was 82 years old and has been cutting…

Bye Bye Boca….

Bye Bye Boca….

Wednesday, 3/20/19, Boca Grande Marina, Boca Grande, Florida Took a short walk-about through the lovely Boca neighborhood where the main mode of transportation is bikes and golf carts. Saw lots of beautiful large homes and darling small cottages. We stopped by “the” bakery but the line was way to long to wait (must be a great place). As we were walking back to the boat one of the neighbors we met on the dock yesterday came out of his home…

Starting to feel like a dinghy

Starting to feel like a dinghy

Sunday, 3/17/19, Crow’s Nest Marina, Venice, Florida Happy St. Patti’s Day on this chilly and overcast day. Our fellow Looper boat Sea Change left this morning along with everyone else – then there was one – Scout was lonely for a little while then our dock filled up again. A big non-Looper boat from Colorado, a small boat from somewhere local and another Looper. Jim and Justine from Florida aboard Knights’ Kingdom just re-started Looping three days ago. We had…

Venice…..

Venice…..

Friday 3/15/19, Crow’s Nest Marina, Venice, Florida Ok folks….. I said this might get a little boring – well guess what? We had no agenda today……nothing to do. Just watched all the activity on the water and in the marina, which happened to be busy today. Another Looper boat came into the marina today. Actually, they are not currently looping but have looped in the past and plan to again soon. They are Betsy and Dave from Maryland aboard Fryedaze….

Surprises…..

Surprises…..

Monday, 3/11/19, Clearwater Yacht Club, Clearwater, Florida Woke up to a really foggy morning. The Club was closed today so it was pretty quiet and we spent most of the day on the boat cleaning and doing lots of chores. Then we went for a walk-about with the doggies. Our terrier, Snooki, loves finding chicken bones and more times than we can remember has found them on our walks but she is finding them everywhere here. We’re beginning to wonder…
