Dorian is gone…..
Good riddance big guy. We have seen the devastation you left in the beautiful places we had just visited.
Fortunately, we’ve been hunkered down in the Wormley Creek Marina in Yorktown, Virginia since Tuesday (9/3). The weather here was beautiful on Wednesday (9/4) as Dorian continued to head our direction. On Thursday (9/5), still experiencing calm sunny weather, we prepared for the worst as Dorian was due to arrive on Friday. We had groceries, wine/beer delivered, filled up with fresh water, took all the flybridge enclosure and canvas off and cleaned it, secured Scout-About, secured anything that might take flight and put ALL our fenders out. A long and tiring day…
When we went to bed around 10:00 is was still fairly calm in the marina. We could hear the wind whistling through the trees across the water from us and were happy to have those trees protecting us from the strong winds outside. We woke around 3:30 am Friday (9/6) morning to rain and winds around ten knots. It continued to rain on and off all day, but it was just rain, no thunder and lightning drama. Winds picked up a bit with a few gusts of 35-40 knots and the water got a little rocky-rolly but we felt comfortable. Weather reports kept saying the major problem would be high tides and could cause flooding, and maybe for us, docks rising over the pilings. Yikes!
High tide arrived at 4:04 pm and put a couple of the fixed docks under water that made traversing our floating dock ramp difficult, but we were fine otherwise. The tide is slowly receding and it’s official – Dorian is gone. We will stay here, put Scout back together, and wait for things to settle down on the outside. Will keep you posted. It feels good that it’s over!
FYI: We are watching National News (weather) and it is much more dramatic than the local news (weather) that we’ve been watching all day.

Glad to hear your good news! Now back to the fun posts!
Indeed! Let the fun posts resume!!!
Congratulations on surviving your first Hurricane. Hopefully you don’t see another one.
Thanks! Yeah, we got lucky and it wasn’t bad for us but you just never know with those suckers! They can really be scary.
Excited to know that all is OK. Also happy to see that you got to use your big balls!!
Best,
Gary and Carmen
Thanks guys. I thought about mentioning how happy I was to bring the big ball out again but decided against it. Glad you noticed those bad boys!
Glad you made it through Dorian. Funny how the local weather forecasts were so much less dramatic than the national ones. We are home from our Bishop vacay… never did catch any fish but had some pretty cool thunderstorms. Luckily we were in the cabin and not camped on the mountain! Hope you continue to have good weather and calm seas!
Thanks Michele,
Sorry to hear that the fish were elusive but glad you enjoyed your time in Bishop. Sounds delightful. We just love that area.
Yeah, keeping an eye on the storms that are currently forming in hopes that they don’t want to come for a visit….
All the best!
