Meeting up with Friends…
Monday, 3/25/19 – Tuesday, 4/2/19, The Legacy Marina, Ft. Myers, Florida
Ok, it’s been a while since the last post just because there hasn’t been much happening to tell you about. We’re just hanging out at the Marina getting boat projects done, walking to the Historic Downtown and to Publix, reading, and ordering things from Amazon. Michael got a haircut at the Barber Shop in Historic Downtown from the historic barber who was 82 years old and has been cutting hair for 66 years. Wow, it was a good cut…the guy knows what he’s doing.
The Marina is located on the Caloosahatchee River and there aren’t many places to Scout-About from here but we did scoot across the river, about a mile, to the other side but not much to see.
We decided to stay in Ft. Myers through the weekend so we could meet up with friends from San Diego. Ron and Mary Ellen Leithiser moved to Cape Coral a few months ago. We know Ron and Mary Ellen from San Diego Yacht Club. They had their sailboat on “H” (Happy) dock at the same time we lived aboard our boat there. Ron and Erika McCleave flew in from San Diego to visit the Leithisers. We also know Ron and Erika through SDYC and have been friends for years. Ron was also our dentist for many years. They all boated over to our marina, in the Leithiser’s boat, on Friday and were able to tie up in a slip beside us. We walked to the Ford’s Garage Restaurant for lunch and had great fun chatting, catching up and seeing familiar faces. Sunday we did the same thing again only we added two more of Ron and Erika’s friends from San Diego who had recently moved to Ft. Myers, Marica and Peter. Again it was an awesome time but way too short!
Today, Tuesday, we were having breakfast on the boat when we noticed the small Paddle Wheeler which carries tourists back and forth daily was out this morning. Michael said they abruptly stopped and he saw something in the water. He thought maybe someone had fallen overboard so he grabbed the binoculars to take a closer look….it appears they were doing practice man-overboard drills. Thank goodness! Later in the morning we visited the Edison and Ford Winter Estates and Museum which were beautiful and extremely interesting. Apparently Thomas and Henry were great friends and shared many innovations with each other during their winters together. Edison even had a laboratory on his estate grounds where he researched many of his 1000’s of patented inventions. He still holds the record for most patents granted to one person. His favorite invention was reported to be the phonograph.
We think we’ll be here at the Legacy Marina through this weekend then we plan to cross Lake Okeechobee to go to the East Coast of Florida. Will check in later…..

That was quite the catering truck that Henry Ford put together! Nice to see you & Mike looking so happy & relaxed. Bet it was fun to hook up with old friends under such different circumstances. Hope the loop continues to treat you well. Keep us posted !
