Sea Hag…..

Sea Hag Marina in Steinhatchee, Florida…..

If you have ever had a computer crash you know how horrible it can be and what we have been going through the last few days. It’s as though your whole life disappears! You’re going along just fine then the screen starts acting a little funny then goes completely BLACK! You yell at it – Noooooo, Noooooo, Noooooooo!!!  But it’s all gone! So for days Michael has been working on breathing some life back into it. And, wahoo, he was successful and we’re back in business. As I said before this man can fix anything…….

Sunday, 2/24/19 – Sea Hag Marina, Steinhatchee – Woke up this morning before day break. About 7:30 people with fishing poles started walking down the docks toward our boat – probably a half dozen – to fish off the docks. There was a man and his son and, I swear, every time the dad put his pole in the water he pulled out a fish. And they were all different kinds. He caught one that was about three feet long with a long pointy snout. He was holding it and posing for photos and all of the sudden the thing slipped out of his hands and back into the water and was gone. Sad but too funny at the same time. If you like to fish this looks like the place to be. We don’t fish but these people were making it look so easy I was ready to buy a fishing pole and try it.  Also, Pelicans are prolific here and they are big and FAT!  We definitely need to keep an eye on the doggies cause these birds could easily take them away.

From our boat Sea Hag Marina looks like it has a bar/restaurant but when you walk up to the facility there is a fish cleaning area, bait area, big gift shop/store, lots of places to sit and lots of storage for boats but no restaurant/bar –so  you bring your own stuff or buy beer from the gift shop/store. Also, there is very little space for transient boats. We were lucky to have called ahead to get a space. Tina and Patrick, from Canada, on Sea Loons, also have a slip here. Miss Adventure and MoWhisky had to go about a mile further up to River Marina which is just past bridge. We understand the access to the marina is controlled by the tide height because the old drawbridge structure under the water.  We all met up at Sea Hag this afternoon for drinks to celebrate making the “crossing” safely. FYI: It’s definitely a good idea to call ahead to be sure there is room to dock here.

Monday, 2/25/19 – Woke up this morning before day break to a beautiful and sunny but cold morning. It’s pretty quiet here at Sea Hag today. Michael continued to work on the computer and I did a couple loads of laundry. I always say we are either very clean or very dirty – I’m not quite sure which one – but we always have laundry to do. For those of you making a Looper budget this can certainly become a line item on that budget – just sayin!

We may have mentioned that our fresh water pump has been giving us problems Well it completely died last night so I had to get water from the dock and heat it on the stove to wash dishes this morning. Just like camping. We ordered a new one a few days ago because the old one had been acting strange. It’s supposed to be delivered here today.

Warmed up about 2:00 today so we went for a scout-about in Scout-About. Ran into our new friends from Miss Adventure, MoWhisky and Sea Loons so stopped at their marina (River Marina) for a beer to celebrate! Back at the boat the fresh water pump had been delivered and Michael was installing it when Patrick (Sea Loons) knocked on the boat to tell us our dinghy had floated away – about a half mile away. He went after it, rescued it and brought it back to us. How lucky that he saw it and how un-lucky that I was the one who tied it up improperly. Duh – another lesson in tying up dinghies.

Patrick (Sea Loons) saving Scout-About…..

Tuesday, 2/26/19 – Woke up at Sea Hag Marina to rain and pretty cool weather. Michael continued to work on the computer and, I am happy to say, got us back up and running today. Yay!!!!! Looks like we might leave this little slice of paradise tomorrow (weather permitting). There’s not much of a town nearby and not much to do but it has a great vibe. Nice spot but we need to move on. Will probably go to Cedar Key and anchor for the night then to on Crystal River.

    1. He is pretty amazing. Lucky that he is so handy at so many things! We are at anchor for the night at Cedar Key and will go to Crystal River tomorrow.
It’s a beautiful anchorage next to a white sand beach with the town about a mile across the water. Started raining just as we anchored but has cleared now.

    1. Yeah, I know. Looking forward to that. We stopped in Cedar Key for the night and will go to Crystal River tomorrow.

  1. You two look great in the photos. Lucky to have found such nice cruising friends. Bummer about your fresh water pump… It’s always something!

    1. Thank you! You’re way too kind. It is fun meeting up with people doing the same think we are. As we move on it looks like we will start seeing lots more Loopers. Yeah, it’s always something with BOATs (Break Out Another Thousand). Fortunately it hasn’t been anything horrible so far!
