Boats and Games…..

Boats and Games…..

For those of you paying attention – I misspoke about our destination today. I said we were going to Morgan City when it should have been Shell Morgan. Got my Shells and Morgans mixed up. We go to Morgan City tomorrow. Anyway…Up this morning about 6:30 to a beautiful sunrise……AND  gunshot sounds. I forgot this is hunting country. Don’t know where they were but they were within earshot. Time to leave! Well after we have breakfast.  When we tried to…

We Slept with the US Coast Guard Last Night….

We Slept with the US Coast Guard Last Night….

We felt quite protected in our sweet little Bow Tie Marina last night. We counted at least eight US Coast Guard boats tied up or on shore-side trailers as we docked and later learned the marina is also the home of the Lake Charles Coast Guard Station. With the off duty crew only a few steps away from our slip we felt quite safe. Actually, when Michael took the dogs for their evening walk an Ensign, carrying a radio, came…

Should we Double Down or Move On?????

Should we Double Down or Move On?????

We awoke to a stunning sunrise this morning after spending a beautiful relaxing night at anchor. We were the only boat in the cove and it was quiet, protected and lovely although there was no shoreline for the doggies to go ashore and do their business. We pulled anchor at about 8:30 am ~ No need to rush today as it looks like about a four hour journey.  Easy-Peasy after yesterday!  The view for the first three hours or so…

A Beautiful Day for a Boat Ride….

A Beautiful Day for a Boat Ride….

This part of the ICW doesn’t really offer many places to stop.  We decided to stay at Laguna Harbor last night because it is just off the ICW and protected.  Our destination today is Shell Island, Texas, about eight hours away. We left Laguna at 7:45 this morning so we could anchor before dark. It was an absolutely beautiful day and the first couple of hours of travel was interesting with lots of cute houses along the shoreline. Then it…

And They’re Off……

And They’re Off……

We’re ready to get going but had some last minute trips to Wally Mart and Randall’s for provisions. And then went to West Marine, Blackburn Marine and Triad Marine only to be told we would need to order what we needed on line because they didn’t have it in stock. DUH! This is the boating capital of Texas…… Don’t get me started on being told when you go into a “brick and mortar” store that they can order what you…

Let’s Get This Party Started..

Let’s Get This Party Started..

Ok……today was a day of lots of projects to get ready to leave tomorrow.   My sister, Sandy, was amazing…..she worked her buns off – washing the entire boat including the anchor rode, plus lots of other projects. I’m pretty sure she’ll be very happy to see us leave. She plans to join us again when we arrive in Florida – hopefully, she will be able to relax and put her ass in the sand, feet in the water, and a…

Big Balls…???!!!

Big Balls…???!!!

Our new friends and slip neighbors Mark and Maridee who spent seven years on the Loop, told us we need BIG BALLS to go through the locks??!!! They said there could be really strong currents so when you secure your boat to the lock walls there is a possibility of getting slammed against said wall – so you need BIG BALLS for protection (Good Idea)! My sister, Sandy, is still here helping us so she and I went on a…

Rain, Rain,Please Go Away….

Rain, Rain,Please Go Away….

It’s been raining non-stop yesterday and today. We’ve decided that the time has finally come to get this party started. Is everything on the boat perfect? Heck No…..but at some point you just have to throw off the lines and GO. The weather, on the other hand, is not cooperating. Not only is it raining non-stop with flash flood warnings, it’s freezing cold and the forecast is for winds out of the NW gusting to 20+. When the winds come…

Our First Looper Encounter

Our First Looper Encounter

In our Marina ~ on our dock ~ in the slip right next to us! Gold Loopers Mark and Maridee aboard Folie a Deux just returned from their seven year Loop Adventure. They invited us aboard their lovely yacht for docktails and were kind enough to share a “boat load” of information. Are we lucky, or what??? Needless to say, our first Looper encounter was of the fabulous kind! Thank you Mark and Maridee! New Year’s Eve and New Year’s…
