Honey Do’s………

Honey Do’s………

We’re still in slip 12 at Seabrook Marina, New Orleans.

Nothing much has happened the last couple of days but completing a “honey do” list and taking advantage of marina facilities. While the boat shower is great –  it was nice to experience the extra space, unlimited hot water and water pressure of the marina shower. I took a very long shower and did the “happy dance”! Then came laundry –  lots of laundry while Michael worked on the generator. We filled up with fuel and found diesel to be pretty expensive here at $3.31 a gallon but we needed it. There can be very long stretches between fuel stops in these parts. Then we borrowed the courtesy car, actually a pick-up truck that is the boat yard parts truck, and went grocery shopping. I think we tend to take grocery shopping for granted. At home we’re  able to get there with our own transportation. Once we get there we’re probably familiar with the store and know where to find everything. This is a very different experience. First you have to get to the store – walking, someone takes you, Uber, borrow a car or ???. When you arrive everything is new-to-you. It’s really kind of a fun experience in a “scavenger hunt” kind of way. And each store carries so many different items depending on where you are. This one had lots of Cajun spices, crab and shrimp boils, hot sauces, etc. Lots of fun perusing the isles.

The reason we’re still here is because a weather front was due to come in yesterday and continue through this afternoon. And it did! It rained off and on all day yesterday then the wind picked up. We saw 20-25 knots consistently with gusts of 35-40! Michael has re-secured the boat a couple of times and helped a few other people secure their boats.  Fortunately our slip is pretty protected, we have a large building behind us and a mega fishing boat beside us – it’s probably 70 feet long and 20 feet wide – a great barrier.

So today we will hunker down and watch the play-off games. It’s freezing cold outside (30’s) and blowing like stink! We have an entertaining view, off our bow, of the approach to the Lakefront airport. Lots of private planes, big and small, are flying in for the big game today. Some are handling the heavy winds better than others..

  1. I think it will be very fun to be there – particularly if the Saints win today. You may know the answer by the time you read this! Anyway, am still enjoying your Blog and continued happy cruising!
    Hugs,
    Pam

    1. Hi Pam,
Unfortunately, we all know now that the Saints did not win. Too bad especially due to what looked to be a bad call. Anyway we hope to go to the French Quarter today or tomorrow. Should be lots of fun and hope to have some great photos.

      1. We were all sad here that the Saints lost too. Ditto on the bad call!
I look forward to hearing about your visit to the French Quarter. Jack and I were there many years ago and I do remember the Hurricanes – kind of like a Mai Tai (yummy!!) Enjoy!

        1. Hi Pam,
Yeah, it’s been about 30 years since we’ve been to the French Quarter. Michael actually proposed to me in the FQ some 41 years ago. So it brought back lots of good memories. Our first stop was Cafe Du Monde-very yummy! This is a city of wonderful food and music! Having a ball.

  2. Hey Sharon, great blog! Makes me feel like I’m right there with you. Fred would have LOVED reading about your adventures. I spent most of January in La Paz (alternately wet, rainy, sunny, windy) and now back in SD. We’ve had some rain here too and I’ll see if this picture of the OB Pier will post. . . .
It won’t so I’ll message it to you. Keep on having fun and making memories! See you down the road – oops, ICW.

    1. Hey Penny,
We would have loved discussing our trip with Fred and know he always had good advice. Miss him so much!
Got your OB Pier photo. It’s amazing and I will try to post it.
We are having fun and making memories. Can’t wait for you to join us!
