Let’s Get This Party Started..

Let’s Get This Party Started..

Ok……today was a day of lots of projects to get ready to leave tomorrow.   My sister, Sandy, was amazing…..she worked her buns off – washing the entire boat including the anchor rode, plus lots of other projects. I’m pretty sure she’ll be very happy to see us leave. She plans to join us again when we arrive in Florida – hopefully, she will be able to relax and put her ass in the sand, feet in the water, and a margarita in her hand…..

Our plan is to leave tomorrow so that we can go through the Calcasieu Lock on the weekend. They are making repairs to this lock and we understand that it is closed Monday through Friday during the day which means all traffic has to go through at night or on the weekend. Since I have NEVER been through a lock and Michael has only been through ONE lock, we thought it prudent to go through when we could actually see what was going on! So we plan to leave Kemah tomorrow and travel a short 23.6 miles to Laguna Harbor. We cruise at about 8.3 knots so that should be about three hours. We will tie up in Laguna Harbor for the night (Wednesday). We will leave Thursday morning for Shell Island another 67 miles and about eight hours where we will  tie up for the night. We plan to leave Friday morning and cruise up the Calasieu River to the L’Auberge Marina where there is a casino (Golden Nugget) and a marina. We will tie up for the night and leave Saturday morning to go through the Calacius Lock. That’s our plan ~ we’ll check in and let you know how it goes….

  1. What fun to be with you vicariously on your adventure! My Marine Traffic app is up todate for following your ais as is my Navionics chart app.

    1. Awesome. We have AIS and a Raymarine plotter with Navonics charts. Unfortunately we found the limitations of both when trying to plot our entire 6,000 mile trip before hand. We crashed both Navionics and the Raymarine plotter and Michael spend days with tech support who were no help but he figured it out on his own. So now we are on our way!

  2. Just got started on your blog and so happy you’re getting underway tomorrow. Our wishes are for a safe and wonderful adventure for your future. Suzi and I came down the Intercoastal from Maine to Ft Lauderdale in fall of 1984 and I’m sure it hasn’t changed? We’re flying back to La Paz tomorrow and will be bringing Sunshine up to SD end of January (Suzi will fly back) ; too bad you can’t do that trip with us. I took her down on the Ha Ha.
“Scout” looks great. A Mainship 35?
Looking forward to following your trip.

Scout is a Mainship 400 which is 40 feet. We love her and are looking forward to our adventure….

  3. Sounds like an ambitious next few days. Good luck with the locke… let us know how it goes. Good luck!
